Dateline NBC has announced an open call for submissions of family Christmas cards that could be featured in their upcoming season. The hit newsmagazine asks for cards that feature an attractive couple with approximately 2.5 kids (preferably blonde) that will look ironic next to the text, “Father Kills Entire Family.”
If selected, these Christmas cards may be featured in episodes of Dateline with titles like “Mystery on a Cold Winter Night,” “Down a Dark Alley,” and “Perfect Life, Perfect Murder.” Participants are requested to explain why they don’t lock their doors in their small towns and why nobody would ever expect a brutal murder to happen to their family.
“The Christmas card selection process affords the producers a unique method to get in front of a story,” said Keith Morrison, host of Dateline. “They really help form the method and narrative of a great murder, and give us the opportunity to offer the paternal figure multiple ways to consider his alibi before killing their family.”
Families have already started submitting their cards. One family from River Falls, Wisconsin said: “We just love Dateline so much that we thought it might be a great family bonding experience to appear on the show. We watch it together with our kids, and they think it would just be so much fun to be on TV!”
